Happy Memorial Day

We had a great Memorial Day weekend. Spent some time on the water, hanging out on the dock, and visiting with friends. Bryce had a blast fishing and playing with Sydney (our friends little girl). Callie was happy to just hang. She has a double ear infection (again!) and a cold so she wasn't in the best of spirits. She is finally starting to feel better and went right to sleep tonight.
I thought I would share a brief video of her playing with her dad this afternoon. I haven't posted a video of her yet. When I got home Bryan was "driving" her around the yard on Bryce's little tykes push car so I thought I would catch her first "car ride".

Hope everyone had a great and relaxing weekend.

Caps for Sale

The other night I read Bryce "Caps for Sale". It's one of those classic kids books that I adored as a child as I'm sure lots of others out there did too (At least Aunt RoRo did as she was the one who gave him the book). Anyway, the book got me thinking about all of the "caps" that are currently on my head.

I am mom, full time employee, cook, housekeeper, room mom for preschool / camp, team mom for tball, chair leader for 3 day walk golf tournament, event planner, fundraiser, chauffeur, and my least favorite, doer of the laundry. Some days I am also: medic, swim instructor, dog walker, and personal shopper.

Most days I don't stop until both kids are in bed asleep and even then I am usually folding cloths, doing dishes, etc. But here is the crazy thing: I wouldn't change any of it. Well, okay, I would not do laundry it that was an option. I love the hectic, crazy days. Maybe it comes from having friends with older kids that are getting ready to leave home. I know that these crazy days will pass way too fast.

Gotta go. It's my day off of work and we have to go to the mall to exchange some shoes, return some books to the library, run yet another load of laundry, and pack up for the weekend at the lake (0ur friends have invited us to their lake house!).

Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday weekend!

On Her Feet

Just a little while ago I heard Callie upstairs crying so I went up to check on her. I opened the door and there she was. Standing up in her crib. I guess she wasn't sure how to get back down so she was hanging on for dear life with tears running down her face. So incredibly cute. So it's another big "first" day at our house. Kinda weird how these moments can make you sad and happy at the same time. I guess that's the mystery of motherhood. How one little moment can make your heart break and swell up at the same time.

busy weekend

This weekend was crazy busy. We went to the pool twice, went to a bday party, hung out with some college friends, dids lots of laundry, and shopped. I also managed to walk 10 miles on Sat and 3 miles on Sunday. Bryan is currently at the grocery store getting food for the week. I love busy weekends but I also love the quiet when the chaos dies down.

On a different note, I am starting to develop a disliking to little girl clothes with lots of ruffles, ribbons, trim, etc. They look adorable brand new and they look even cuter on Callie but they do not come out of the dryer looking like that. You actually have to iron them to get all of the ruffles, ribbons, etc to sit just right. And I hate to iron. Hate it with a passion. Is there some kind of trick to it? Seriously, any advice would be great.

Last day of School

Bryce's last day of school was this week. Can't believe that the year is over already...it flew by so fast! He has changed sooooo much since his first day last September.

The pic above was from the first week of school. The pic on the right was from the last day of school. Can you tell he is into being as silly as possible?

When you ask him if he will miss going to school he says "no, but I will miss Ms. Erin". He loved his teacher! Here is a pic of them (along with one of his friends) on the last day.
School is officially out for summer and here is what Bryce says he is looking forward to:
  • His Birthday Party
  • Swimming at the pool
  • The Beach
  • Playing with Pop
  • The Ice Cream Truck

girls and their shoes

I realized today as I was getting Callie dressed that she not only has a more expansive wardrobe then me, but she has more shoes then me! I'm really not kidding. For those of you that don't know, Bryan's mom works at Gymboree. That basically means that Callie and Bryce are the best dressed kids on our block (or probably any block). Here is a sampling of the three new pairs she got this past weekend.

She is wearing the Madras plaid one's today. Is it bad that I'm jealous of my daughters shoe collection?

Race for the Cure

Today I participated in the Race for the Cure 5K. It was amazing! They said there were close to 20K people participating....crazy right? My team for the 3 day decided it would be a fun way to get together, get some miles in, and help raise more money for breast cancer awareness. I'm glad we decided to do it. It was an absolutely beautiful day....a little hot, but not too awful. And my mom walked with us which was really nice since it's Mother's day weekend.
This is a pic of everyone that walked with us today. The ladies in pink are both survivors. The lady on the end is walking on our 3 day team (she is 65...amazing!!)

Can you believe how many people there were?

Laurie and Me. We are both walking for one of my college friends who was recently diagnosed (Laurie went to church with her growing up). Neither of us had any idea that we were walking for the same person until after we were on the same team.

Me and my mom. What a great way to spend Mother Day weekend.

Everyone on my team is so much fun.

And here is my plug for the 3 Day Walk. If you haven't made a donation towards my fundraising campaign please think about it. I have raised $17oo so far but still have $500 to go towards the minimum and $1500 to reach our team leaders goal for each member. The money all goes towards finding a cure for breast cancer. All you have to do is click on the link on the left hand side of this page. So think about it, orbetter yet just do it.

End of sales pitch...Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day!

Out of the mouth of babes

Question of the day: Mommy, If we plant the bird seed can we grow birds?

You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends nose (But you can wipe your boogers on them)

Bryce had his end of the year program today, Tiki, Tiki, Timbo. It was so cute. All of the kids did a great job. We were scared that Bryce wasn't going to get up on stage, but he did great. I have the entire thing on video so should you want a copy (I'm not sure who would really want the entire thing) let me know.
This is a video of Bryce after the program was over. He got bored and started picking his nose. Boys will be boys I guess. The funny thing is that he wiped his snot on his friend Christopher. Got the whole thing on film and it's pretty funny. I'm sure one day he will really appreciate it.

Just my luck

Does it ever seem like you just have bad luck?
That you just can't catch a break no matter what?
Welcome to my world
And the bad luck continued Friday night.
Our truck was parked in the street in front of our friends house (they live right around the corner on the main road of our subdivision). It wasn't bothering anyone...just sitting there minding it's own business when....Wham!
A drunk driver comes flying down the street and hits it head on.
Cops came, he refused a breathalyzer, and they took him away in cuffs after he continually failed a sobriety test.
Found out today that he currently is awaiting trial for a previous DUI.
And the best news....he has First Acceptance Insurance.
A very popular insurance company for people that can't get insurance anywhere else
And you know that they are going to make getting our car fixed soooooo easy. I figured that out today after I was transfered and hung up on 5 times.
Why couldn't he have hit the back of the truck which still has tape holding the tail light on? Oh Yeah....that would have required some good luck.

Saying of the week

Bryce: Guess what Miss Erin
Teacher: What is it Bryce?
Bryce: My daddy's favorite word is Damn-it.

Sooooo Big!

Callie is turning into quite the little ham. She will babble at you until you look at her and laugh. She then smiles this huge smile (see pic below) and laughs. She will play this game for hours. Other things she finds amusing are:
  • Peek-a-boo
  • How big is Callie? Soooo Big (she will lift up one arm and when you tell her "yeah!", she claps for herself)
  • Patty-Cake
  • Eating anything she can find on the floor
  • "Chasing" Maxi
  • Laughing at Bryce
  • Swinging in her outside swing
  • Taking a bath and splashing

Itwas so nice outside today so I decided to take some new pics. Here are a few.

I admit it...I bought a fanny pack

One thing I always said I would never own...a fanny pack. Just the name itself is awful. And if I wasn't doing the three day walk I would have never broken my own rule.
We are required to carry at least 2 bottles of water plus various other necessities. It would be impossible to carry them for 20 miles a day without some type of pack. My team leader found a deal online and asked if we all wanted to order them as a group. I said yes (much to my own horror).
So now Jason has something to tease me about for the next ten years. Tease away....I'm sure when I'm on mile 15 on day 2 I will be happy that I have a huge pack strapped to my backside.
